RE: De-winterizng an RV

Glad to report we found the fresh water fill. Not where you would expect it to be….near the wet bay. Heck no, it is on the other side of the RV……..ON THE SIDE OF THE BEDROOM SLIDEOUT ! Not under it……right on the side. Where the coach is white and so is the fill. With the slide out, never thought to look there! Just one more mystery solved. Thanks for all the help and suggestions, guys. It may take a village to raise a kid, but apparently it takes a lot of friendly, helpful RVers to get this gal straightened out. Still, there are more mysteries to unravel….like where is the fuse located for the HWH levelers? ??????

RE: Desperate…Damon 2001 Intruder water fill location

Thanks for letting me know about heating the tank. Love RV.net and the incredible kindness of all onboard that share their knowledge.

RE: Desperate…Damon 2001 Intruder water fill location

The tank is in the bay directly below the slide. Sure seems like a wacky place for it to be. Especially, since the tank is supposed to be heated. Darned if I can figure out how. The pictures I saw online of some of the 2001 Intruders had the fill location above the wet bay next to the water heater. Guess it all depended on the specific model where they put it.

RE: Desperate…Damon 2001 Intruder water fill location

FINALLY FOUND IT !!!!! NOT where I thought it would be. I have it parked in the side yard with the bedroom slide out. The fill is actually on the side of the slide! What a strange place for it. I kept looking on the side of the RV. Never occurred to me that it would be on the slide itself. Thanks so much for the assist and info guys. I even have the owners manuals and they do not tell where the fresh water fill is. Learning a new RV IS sooooooo much fun!

Desperate…Damon 2001 Intruder water fill location

Can someone PLEASE tell me where the fresh water tank fill is located on the 349 model of the Intruder? I have searched the internet high and low and cannot find an answer. There is NO outside fill anywhere on the RV. Yes, I know what to look for! There are No gravity feed options. There is NO way to switch from City Water fill in the wet bay. No levers, switches, or other fill options other than waste flushing system. I have seen pictures of 2001 Intruders that do have outside fill connections and some that do not. Mine does not. I asked the previous owners and they had no clue as they only ever used city water. There HAS to be a way to fill this darn tank. Can someone PLEASE HELP ME?

RE: De-winterizng an RV

Ah, but after getting the city water to work and all faucets working……dangled if there is not another water issue. Cannot figure how to fill the water tank. Again called the previous owners and they never filled it. Just used city water hookups. I have examined every inch of the outside of the RV and there is no water tank fill valve. In the wet bay there is a hookup for city water and directly below it another clearly labeled for flushing the waste tank. I saw pictures of Intruders - Some with clear outside hookups and some not. Read several people talked about turning some valve on the city water to tank fill. But my connection does not have that option either. Read the owners manual and it tells me nothing. This is getting really annoying with this RV. Something so simple as filling a tank. I have owned several RV,s and never had these kinds of issues. Driving me nuts and it is a dang short trip.

RE: De-winterizng an RV

Well, as it turns out, I did contact the previous owner who has been so helpful. Turns out he never used a bypass. He blew out all the lines and put RV anti-freeze in the traps and toilet. So got the water working in kitchen and bathroom. Now, apparently the fresh water level sensor is not working as we have been filling the tank for 20 minutes and it is still showing empty. And one of the two low drain valves is dripping pretty good. So little by little, we are getting there. Might be able to actually use this RV soon. Lol

RE: What happened to all the rallies?

Dale, thanks for the info on possible rallies or get together. I did get a message from the Jolly Good Sams in Dallas that the National Good Sams are gone and few regional ones are left. Some are still functioning, just under the Good Sam banner. I guess COVID was a rally killer. Now I have to deal with another killer. Dementia. My other half is dealing with it. I had hoped getting back into RVing would give him some good times but now that is not working as well as I hoped. I will have to see how much I will be able to hold everything together by myself. I am older, but not down yet. Lol

RE: De-winterizng an RV

Ok….time to admit I am dumb! Took me forever to figure out the bypass valve was nowhere on the water heater…..or at least the part on the outside of the RV. Now next stumbling block. It is apparently behind a panel in the bedroom under a closet and drawer. Even has a notice on it saying to remove the panel to get access to the water heater. How nice. Except the panel has no hinges, no pulls, no screws or any way to remove it except for somehow prying it off. My luck I would try that and destroy the panel or the frame around it. Someone tell me why I was dumb enough to buy another motor home! Is there a secret in a “guys only” manual that tells how to do this stuff? The one I am with is suffering from some mental decline and is no help at all. Figured getting an RV would be good for him to get out and enjoy before his mind is too far gone. So far have not made it out of the yard! ??????

RE: What happened to all the rallies?

So sad to see RV net and Good Sam lose so much of its support. Years ago it was a wonderful place to be and the rallies were so much fun. Started a couple of great ones in CA. Really was hoping to revive the fun. I will do as you say and check on Facebook for anything local..

RE: De-winterizng an RV

There is a big bottle of pink RV antifreeze liquid that came with the RV. I will check again and see if that is what came with the RV. Previous owner had used the RV for years so I suspect all should be good. Thanks for the detailed instructions. I will follow them tomorrow. And let ya know how I make out.

De-winterizng an RV

Just got a used RV. It has been in storage for sometime and all water was blown out and then everything shut down for the winter. There is some red stuff in the toilet. That is what I know. Can someone point me to a good video or explanation of how to get the water back on? I saw something on a website before about sanitizing the tanks. But right now the RV is in the side yard and I do not want to flood it with water. Best option would be to do all this in an RV park where everything goes down the drain…..but temporarily the RV cannot be moved, so side yard it is. Any help will be much appreciated.

What happened to all the rallies?

I was an extremely active member in Good Sam and RV.net 20 years ago. Lots of rallies to go to and a couple I started myself. Then life got in the way and I ended up living in my 5th wheel RV and running an RV park and that puta crimp on my RVing. Got talked into buying a house and not being able to tow the 5vr really messed up my rally days. Fast forward to today. Much older and wanting to travel and play before I am too old to do so. Bought a 2001 Damon Intruder class A and ready to find a Good Sam Chapter and a few rallies to attend….. and they are gone. National Good Sam chapters….gone. Most of state level around here gone. And nothing in the forum about rallies anywhere. So sad. What happened in the last 20 years? I feel like Rip Van Winkle…..took a nap and woke up to this? Yikes.

RE: 2001 Damon Intruder rear view mirror

Update……called Velvac. They said to call manufacturer to get part #. Called Thor and the wonderful lady in customer service was able to use the VIN # and get the exact part number for the mirror on the RV. Turns out it is the exact part number on the Velvac website. Now just have to wait about 3 weeks for it to ship and then get it painted. Now on to the rest of the “minor” issues. Lol.

RE: 2001 Damon Intruder rear view mirror

Sadly, the entire mirror is toast. Still have the swing arm. It is a Velmac 2030 bus type. Need to call them and order one. Had no luck with the salvage site. Next issue will be painting it to match the left side. Since it is a 2001 Damon and they were bought out in 2003 by Thor - not sure I will have much luck getting paint codes from them. Just found out the mirrors are NOT heated. Yea! Now on a search thru the RV for the painting codes. Wonder where they are hidden. Have all the owners manuals for the RV and all the stuff in it…even the Velmac wiring diagrams…..but no codes. They say on their site it is a special order item now and will take three weeks to process before shipping. Going to be a VERY expensive tree!!!! Gee, ain’t getting back into RV’ing fun? ??????????????

RE: 2001 Damon Intruder rear view mirror

I am hoping that I can find one from a salvage yard. It may be the wrong color but if I can find the Intruder color code I can get it painted at a body shop. A new one from Velvec is over $500. Naturally it is heated. Lol. So am I………darn tree!

2001 Damon Intruder rear view mirror

Well, I am back in RVing after a long absence. Now have an Intruder. The right rear view mirror had an unfortunate accident with a tree and now needs to be replaced. Since it is a 2001, parts are hard to come by.. I have seen an RV salvage yard online with 2001 Damon Challenger rear view mirrors that look to be same as mine (especially painted the same color). Does anyone know if they are interchangeable? Thanks, Campingshadow 2001 Damon Intruder
